Fendalton Library is closing for eight weeks while Christchurch City Council refurbishes the building.
The library will be closed from Monday 23 September until Sunday 17 November.
The service centre, including NZ Post Plus services, will remain open as normal, although visitors will not have access to bathroom facilities. The library’s carpark is also unavailable for use during the closure period.
Head of Libraries and Information Carolyn Robertson says while library users may be disrupted by the closure, the building’s refurbishment is much needed.
“Fendalton Library is a much-loved facility, and we know our community will miss being able to visit during the closure. Our library users will be welcomed back in November to an updated and enhanced building as part of our regular renewal programme,” she says.
During the closure, reserved items will be made available to collect from Upper Riccarton Library unless otherwise requested.
Items cannot be returned to Fendalton Library during this period but can be returned to any other libraries across the city network.
The library’s external return slots will be unavailable during the closure.
Some further external works, and interior refurbishment will be done outside of the closure, including resurfacing of the carpark and the staff bathrooms.
